Mercy to Graduate 82
82 students will graduate from Mercy High School on Thursday, May 18. The 7 p.m. ceremony will take place at the Joslyn Witherspoon Concert Hall.
This year’s valedictorian Rachel Dethlefs is the captain of the Varsity Soccer Team and has been on Varsity Soccer since her sophomore year. She is a member of the National Honor Society (NHS) and Golden Girls, a spirit club at the school. She has been involved in many service activities and is a Core member of Operations Others as well as a recipient of the Catherine McAuley Service Award. She also received the Rotary Club of Omaha Outstanding Senior Scholarship. Dethlefs plans to attend the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minn. where she has received an Academic Scholarship as well as the Trustees Academic Scholarship.
Lyndee Hoge is this year’s salutatorian. She is a National Merit Scholarship Finalist, an Outstanding Senior for 2017, and Student Council Secretary. She portrayed Catherine McAuley in the 2016 Mercy Day Play, served as Stage Manager for last fall’s musical, The Wizard of Oz, and this spring’s play Pride and Prejudice, and was named a Distinguished Honor Thespian at the school’s annual Theatre Awards. Hoge has also played soccer, been involved in show choir and theatre, and is a member of NHS. She will be attending the University of Oklahoma where she will be studying linguistics. She has also received Regents Scholarships for both UNL and UNO.
