You Make Mercy Possible

Your donations make a quality, college-prep education available to students who desire it. 82% of our students receive tuition assistance. Because of you, Mercy distributes $1.99 million annually in tuition assistance, a figure that eclipses support given by other private, college-prep schools in the area. However, only a third of this support comes from our endowment. Your donations make up the $1 million shortfall that tuition doesn't cover. This is why you are so important!

Giving Opportunities

Annual Giving

Annual Fund support is the lifeblood for private schools. It’s a key component in how we provide $1.8 million in tuition assistance that 82% of our students receive every year. Our unique Negotiated Tuition Program considers the financial circumstances of each Mercy family to negotiate a tuition price that is fair and affordable. Your gifts to the Annual Fund are used immediately and ensure that the lifetime advantage of a Mercy education continues to be possible for all families.

Background: Mercy High School was founded by the Sisters of Mercy more than 60 years ago to provide a quality, faith-based education to young women in the Omaha metro area. The Sisters of Mercy Direction Statement reaffirms that the community will provide education to the economically poor as well as to students representing all ethnicities. In keeping with that spirit, our school has created the McAuley Scholars Program named for the foundress of the Sisters of Mercy, Catherine McAuley. This transformative program will ensure that exceptional young women can receive a quality education.

What It Is:  The McAuley Scholars Program empowers young women with limited financial means to reach their full potential through a faith-based, college preparatory education. The program provides $5,000 in scholarships for these students on an annual basis as long as they continue to meet the educational standards of Mercy. This scholarship represents approximately half of the tuition costs.

Why Mercy: In Omaha, Mercy is the acknowledged, historic leader of diverse and inclusive all-girls private education. Mercy’s racial and socio-economic mix parallels Omaha’s demographic profile, which creates a welcoming environment for girls from every residential ZIP code in the metropolitan area. In fact, Mercy High School’s mission reiterates that any deserving student should be able to attend; however, nearly 30 percent of our student body comes from low-income families, qualifies for free and reduced lunch, or lives at or below the poverty level. Financial assistance is a must.

The Students:  There are many students who apply to Mercy High School and meet the qualifications of acceptance but lack the financial resources to pay full tuition.  The pipeline exists to get the right students in the door. They just need support.

Each gift of $5,000 will provide one McAuley Scholarship. For more information contact Anna Dwyer, dwyera@mercyhigh.org or call 402.553.9424

Planned Giving

Your planned gift ensures the future of Mercy High School while lessening the tax burden on your estate and your heirs. Gift commitments or bequests through a will or trust, life insurance, or beneficiary designations for qualified retirement plans such as your 401(k) or IRA all help to further Mercy’s educational mission.

Scholarships

Endowing a named scholarship or tuition award is an investment in Mercy’s mission of providing a faith-based education to any girl who desires it. As a minimum gift of $25,000, your scholarship or tuition award can be funded as a single gift, a series of gifts over several years, or a planned gift from your estate. Your scholarship or tuition award means Mercy can continue its tradition of educating young women for years to come.

If you have any questions or would like to endow a scholarship or tuition award, contact Anna Dwyer, Vice President for Advancement, at 402.553.9424 or dwyera@mercyhigh.org.
