Meet Our New Teachers
Our new Spanish II and Honors Spanish III teacher is Ms. Sophia Dongilli. After obtaining her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Kansas State University, Sophia taught for two years there. She then taught for a year International Language Center in Peru and five years at Skutt Catholic before coming to Mercy. Sophia is an avid reader, traveler, and music lover. She also loves spending time with her husband and her weenie dog, Alberto. “I am most excited to meet the wonderful Mercy Monarch ladies and to be a part of a community that fosters language learning and multiculturalism!”
Tom Tvrdy will be teaching Economics and U.S. History this year. A graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Tom taught at Seward High School in Seward, Nebraska, for the past 20 years where he was the head girls basketball coach. During his tenure at Seward, they won 104 straight games and had undefeated state championship teams from 2009-2012. Tom is very excited to be joining the Mercy community: “The thing that most excites me is the opportunity to build great relationships with the students and staff at Mercy. I love meeting new people.”
