Mercy High School’s incoming freshmen will be required to have an iPad in their possession when the school year begins August 2019. We recommend incoming students purchase a new iPad (generation 6) as this device is intended to last all of her 4 years at Mercy. A generation 5 iPad would suffice as well. Purchasing the latest iPad model will ensure the hardware will be compatible with Apple's routine iOS updates. iPad Minis and iPhone Plus models are not allowed.

Other considerations for iPad include:

  • Color: Color doesn't matter to us, use your creative freedom.
  • Storage: 32 GB of storage is plenty, however, 64 GB of storage is an excellent option.
  • Cellular Data: You can purchase a cellular data-capable iPad, however, it is against school and technology use policy for students to use cellular data during the school day.
  • AppleCare+: This is not required by Mercy High School, however, students and their families are responsible for ensuring they have a working device.

If you have additional questions, feel free to email Mercy's Director of Technology, Mr. Paul Tschudin at tschudinp@mercyhigh.org.

Case/Keyboard Combo

It is highly recommended that all students purchase a case/keyboard combo to protect their iPad.  A majority of the students who have not purchased a heavy-duty case have paid for additional iPad screen repairs.

When purchasing an iPad case/keyboard, be sure to consider the iPad model and your daughter's ability to take care of her device.  Every iPad model has different specifications and every student has different experiences integrating technology into her educational experience. Families are 100% liable for their iPad and are responsible for all damages done to their device.
