Mercy Celebrates Mercy Gras FIESTA 2017

January 09, 2017
By Deb Daley

Mercy Gras FIESTA 2017, Mercy High School’s largest fundraiser, will be celebrated on February 25 at the La Vista Conference Center, 12520 Westport Parkway. The event begins with Mass at 5:00 p.m. and includes silent and live auctions, a gourmet dinner and a $10,000 raffle drawing.  Monies raised help fund the Negotiated Tuition Program at Mercy, an individualized tuition plan for each student tailored to her family’s financial ability.  Last year Mercy provided $1.6 million in tuition assistance to 82 percent of its families.  The school’s highest honor given to individuals or groups who partner in the school’s ministry of the careful instruction of young women, the Cor Misericordiae Award, will also be presented.

School parents Joe and Fay Fisher are FIESTA Chairs and along with several hundred volunteers, coordinate all aspects of the event from acquiring and picking up auction items, to decorating the venue, and setting up for all activities.  Using BidPal on their smartphones or other devices, attendees will be able to bid on items such as vacation/travel packages, concert and sporting tickets, art collectibles, baskets, gift certificates, college gear and many other items.  New this year, photographs of baskets and other key auction items will also appear on the BidPal site. Local businesses and individual supporters help underwrite costs, sponsor tables, and purchase catalog advertising.  Participants are encouraged to wear masks and other Mardi Gras apparel as part of the celebration.

Cor Misericordiae Award

Receiving the Cor Misericordiae Award is Ingrid Kalinowski Borghoff ’65.  She led the school’s Alumnae and Advancement activities for more than a quarter of a century before retiring in 2012 as Vice President of Advancement.  Ingrid’s achievements include co-founding the annual Golf Fest, establishing an Annual Fund Program, reinvigorating the Alumnae Council and orchestrating several capital campaigns.

Cost to attend is $125 per person with a special price for alumnae-- one alumna and a guest is only $75 per person.  Registration for FIESTA 2017 is available online at http://mercyhigh.org/fiesta-2017/ and clicking on the registration link.
