The purpose of the Mercy Art Department is to incorporate all aspects of creating, presenting, responding, and connecting in study of the visual arts in order for students to explore the full scope of what it means to be an artistically literate citizen. Embedded in these standards are ideas about how arts learning can be broadened and deepened to support students in making meaning of their lives and their world.

Musicals at Mercy: Be part of the fall Mercy High School musical as an actor, stage crew member, or tech crew member. In recent years, we’ve showcased our students' talents with shows like Into the Woods, Mary Poppins, and Annie. Auditioning for the musical is a chance to develop your acting and singing abilities, make friendships, and be a part of a high-quality theatre production. Musical auditions begin in August, with rehearsals beginning soon after. The audition process for both actors and tech will be available at the beginning of the fall semester.
Plays at Mercy: The Mercy High School spring play is an excellent opportunity for students to refine their acting and stagecraft skills. Recent productions have shown the acting range that Mercy actors are capable of, which include Animal Farm, Miracle Worker, and most recently, Clue: On Stage. The audition process for both actors and tech will be available at the beginning of the spring semester.

Music Curricular Classes:
Introduction to Theatre: Introduction to Theatre is for everyone, whether you have acted your whole life or just starting out. We begin with ensemble building using theatre games and exercises that professionals across the globe utilize. Then, we begin scene work and begin to analyze and understand character development, set design, and productions as a whole. Finally, we look at how theatre can be a tool to carry out the Sisters of Mercy's critical concerns.
Intermediate Theatre: Intermediate Theatre emphasizes the stagecraft component of theatre productions. Students learn hands-on how to construct and build the set for the spring play. This includes basic level wood-work, light and sound design, costumes, props, and set design.
Mercy High Singers: Mercy High Singers is an auditioned treble ensemble dedicated to fostering vocal growth and expanding performance opportunities within the Mercy community. Members will develop musical literacy, pitch accuracy, and sight-reading skills while exploring diverse choral literature. Through dynamic rehearsals and performances, students will refine their vocal technique, interpret complex musical pieces, and connect music to historical, cultural, and faith-based contexts. With a focus on professionalism and musicianship, Mercy High Singers empowers students to express themselves through music while building confidence and community. This ensemble has the option to meet daily or twice a week (with approval). Performances include concerts, community events, and caroling. For more information, contact Ms. Noronha at noronhan@mercyhigh.org.
