April 11, 2018
By Deb Daley

Mercy High School’s Fine and Performing Arts departments are having a busy couple of weeks approaching, showcasing the talent and hard work within Music, Art, Theatre, and Dance.

The Spring play: Girls of the Garden Club: A Comedy in Three Acts, by John Patrick, winner of the 1954 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for The Teahouse of the August Moon, will be performed this weekend, April 13-15, at 7:00 p.m.  Cost of tickets will be $10 for adults, $7 for students (K-12), and $5 for Mercy girls.  They are available at the door.

In addition, an assembly will be held during school on Monday, April 23rd, where each department will have a short performance or presentation and artwork will be displayed.

Mercy High Singers will compete at the District Music Contest on Friday, April 20 at Platteview High School.  The students will sing as a large group, in a treble chorus as well as in four senior-led ensembles, eight solos and two duets.  The Music Concert on April 24 at 7:00 p.m. will feature some of the pieces that they perform at Districts. Also included are students from guitar classes and several other solo and group performances.  The Spring Dance Concert is Sunday, April 29 at 6:00 pm. It will feature four staff dances and seven student-choreographed pieces that will utilize ballet, jazz, modern, and hip hop technique.

Award winning artwork from Intro to Art, Drawing and Painting, and 3D Design students will be on display in Franey Hall from Monday, April 23 until Sunday, April 29 and during the concert and recital.

At Mercy, students have an opportunity to express themselves through a variety of artistic experiences and the school welcomes others to share in those accomplishments.
