1776 Winter Musical

November 17, 2017
By Deb Daley

1776 is Mercy High School’s winter musical production December 1, 2 and 3 at 7:00 p.m. Featuring music and lyrics by Sherman Edwards and book by Peter Stone, Mercy’s performance features an all-female cast in the male-dominated play as well as a blend of modern dress and period elements.

With the popularity of Hamilton, play goers may see some interesting connections between this play and the current Broadway musical. In Hamilton, minorities are representing white people, in Mercy’s play a diverse cast of young women are representing men. Also both shows deal with the challenging intersection of independence, racism, and compromise.

More than 50 students are in the cast or are working behind the scenes on the production. This is the first show for first-year Theatre Director, Joshua von Kampen.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for students (K-12), and $5 for Mercy students and are available at the door.

Is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI.
