The Guidance Program at Mercy High School promotes the academic, social, spiritual, and emotional development of all students.  The program is designed to meet the needs of the students and assist them in developing a foundation for personal success as they become life-long learners. Students develop the skills essential for making informed, realistic and healthy choices for personal decisions, career choice and college selection.

Our counselor meets with students individually and in small groups to ensure they acquire the ability and expertise to prepare for standardized tests, examine personal interests and individual strengths related to career options, identify colleges and universities that challenge them to maximize their potential and to search for sources of financial aid and scholarships.

Our Guidance Counselor is actively involved in meeting the developmental needs of students throughout the high school experience, preparing them for college & future endeavors.

College and career planning is an ongoing process beginning freshman year through the use of career interest inventories and standardized tests.  Resources are available for continuation of the process through training and use of Naviance at each grade level. Sophomores can identify their learning style and research career options.  Juniors take the PSAT/NMSQT, create a personal resume of high school activities and prepare for the ACT. Seniors begin the college selection and application process, as well as search for scholarship and financial aid opportunities.  The Guidance Counselor arranges opportunities for students to meet with college representatives at Mercy and encourages students to arrange for college visits. Support and assistance is provided throughout college planning and while the counselor may suggest school options, the decision rests with the student and her parents.

The Guidance Counselor welcomes phone calls and is available for meetings by appointment. Students are encouraged to take advantage of the resources available through Naviance and the Guidance Office link on RenWeb.
